Coding and STEM Class!

Our unique group coding classes balance screen time with hands-on activities and opportunities to create and explore a variety of activities including 3D printing, makerspace and basic robotics in addition to focusing on our signature coding curriculum that can take any coder where they want to be! Our coders will spend the 50-60 minutes coding, usually in Scratch, but we have many coding platforms to play with, as well as more social, team building STEM activities for 15-25 minutes. Each month we offer different coding challenges for them to show us their mad coding skills. Ages 5-13, (will be broken up into two groups , 5-8 year olds and 8-12 year olds) please read more here and reach out to us with questions!

Here are some of our other classes

(many homeschoolers are in these classes althougt not designated homeschool!)

TechGurlz

TechGurlz is a creative/tech class for girls 4th-8th grade , or those identifying as girls, to explore technology through creative projects in a supportive, fun space. They will start with graphic design concepts, creating their own personal 3D logo and then 3D print it as a keychain or stamp. After they will move into wearable circuits, film making, laser cut jewelry, website creation or anywhere the class chooses to explore!

Early Elementary School Coding, Robotics and STEM

Our unique 5-8 year old classes balance screen time with hands-on activities and opportunities to create and explore a variety of activities including 3D printing, Makerspace, science activities and basic robotics in addition to our signature coding curriculum that can take any little coder where they want to go! Basic reading is required, please read more here.

STEM Preschool Class - A Castel Adventure!

Come Join us at this drop-off preschool class where we explore science, coding, art and engineering all wrapped around a Medieval adventure with castles, dragons and knights!! Each of the six classes will have three stations of either, a coding station (yes, they really will learn some basic coding!), robot exploration, an engineering challenge or a science/art project that will inspire and delight their inner STEAM! *This is a stand alone 6 week class, and does not include Club Membership and is for ages 3 1/2-5years old.

Destination Imagination

Destination Imagination is a nationwide makerspace team competition that will help participants learn about the creative process, interpersonal skills, critical thinking, project management, team building, conflict resolution and resilience. In “DI” as we call it, each team of children will choose a challenge and then spend the fall preparing a solution that is presented at a competition in Seattle. Each week they will also practice a mini-STEM challenges. This class, under the guidance of a seasoned Destination Imagination instructor, takes working in teams and STEM to a whole new level while enjoying ALL the other benefits the Club offers! Grades 2nd-7th grade, please read more here.

Elementary School Robots and Legos!

Robotics is a fun and easy way to get started with STEM while learning programming, engineering, & design principles. This class will guide students through beginner projects, introducing new concepts and skills using a variety of different robotic platforms including Lego® as well as working on the Sphero Global Challenge. and other competitions the class chooses. Grades 2nd-5th, please read more here.

Middle School Coding and Robotics Team

We love middle schoolers (5th-8th)!! In their classes they take over the Club and can choose either VEX Robotics Team or coding (except Friday’s class which is exclusively Robots). Our Robotics teams, in groups of 2-3, develop their math, engineering, coding and of course team-building skills as they work to compete in VEX challenges with the robots they design and build. This is a great way to get the jump on high school robotics as all BPS use the VEX system! Robotics Team members who want to go to the VEX Compititions in Seattle will need to meet milestones along the way and attend a Saturday workshop, tentatively planned for 9/30) Grades 6th-8th, (5th graders on Fridays are allowed) please read more about Robotics Team here and coding here.

We ask that each middle schooler tell us if they are more interested in VEX robotics or coding, we can usually switch them if necessary but this helps us plan!

Advanced Coding

For those 4th-7th graders who are very experienced in Scratch, can type well, have been at our Club more than 1.5 years (or get prior clearance) and are more focused on Coding than our STEM activities, we are now offering advanced coding. We recognize 5th-7th graders could take this class OR the middle school classes. The middle school classes are more social, self-paced, allow for Scratch and often still do the STEM activity (hopefully that helps you make a choice!)

High School Drone Class

We are excited to launch a brand new drone class for high schoolers (and 8th grade with permission)! This class will be diving into drones in a plethera of ways: We will 3D design our own drones, print them and build them. We will race drones in our new gym and learn to fix them when they crash. We will code drones for precision challenges and cordinated drone shows and take our larger drones outdoors to check out drone photography and videography. This class will require students to buy their own Cetus FPV RTF Drone Kit (currently priced at $200) for racing that the students will be responsible for repairing. We will supply the parts for the drones they build and and the drones they code. Join us for a brand new adventure!

Adult Coding

We are now offering the long awaited Adult Coding Class for ages 17+. This class will be a space for those that are new to coding and want to learn, right on up to advanced coders that just want company and brainstorming buddies while coding. It will all be self-paced and self-directed. We will chat with you about your goals and get you set in one of our many coding curriculums, or, if you are working on your own projects, feel free to bring your computer and just code away with us!
