What is Odyssey of the Mind?

Odyssey of the Mind is a creative problem-solving program in which teams of up to seven students work together to solve a challenge and present their solution at a competition.

Each team:

• Chooses a long-term challenge involving engineering, building, storytelling, art, or performance

• Designs and creates the entire solution themselves—with very limited adult help

• Builds props, costumes, sets, vehicles, or devices within a set budget

• Performs its solution for judges

• Completes a surprise “spontaneous problem” at the competition

It’s a mix of STEM, theater, teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving. It’s especially good for imaginative kids who like building and inventing but may not be drawn to traditional sports or academic competitions.
